Phoenix & Bridge Galleries 19 June – 27 July
Iranian artist Akram Rahmanzadeh presents the Iraq War and Persian baths in oils. These large paintings depict contrasting scenes reflecting the war in Iraq on the one hand and the tranquillity enjoyed by women and children in Persian baths on the other.
Akram states: “Ideas develop through a process of observation and memory. The ‘Hammam’ series examines the exclusivity of a female space, its social significance and celebrates the idea of feminine by breaking the stereotypes. The ‘War’ series depicts the current conflict in Iraq, viewed through the eyes of the media, the de-humanisation and the destruction.”
Akram lives in Glastonbury, Somerset.
